Friday Food Art #1: Chibi Totoro in the Garden

My little guy has lunch at home most days. Sometimes I just throw some stuff on a plate, but sometimes I feel a little more fancy. When J. asked for noodles and tiny burgers, I got an idea, which was doubtless inspired by all the wonderful bento soot sprites that I’ve seen in the wilds of the internet.

So with the addition of white American cheese and nori eyes, the burgers became soot sprites to guard the pasta. Cucumbers and carrots were cut into flowers, and a tiny chibi Totoro (made from cucumber, white cheese, and nori) hid underneath them.

Excluding cooking time, the whole thing took me just a few minutes to arrange. Not bad for a weekday lunch.

Happy nibbling
