I made this snack bento a while back. The kids shared it on their way to their enrichment classes a few weeks ago, and they declared it a success. But (of course) who doesn’t love a bunny?
Ming from Bento Monsters has a great photo tutorial of how to make these rolled sandwiches (linked here). They’re pretty easy – not as simple as a PB&J on Wonder bread, but not that hard either. I recommend them when you’re out of ideas and still want to do something fun for the littles (<— which was the story of that particular afternoon).
The fillings on the sandwiches are fried ham strips and regular old cold-cut ham. Faces are done with nori, which I stuck to the bread with a little softened butter. The ears are pieces of bread crust, cut into rounded batons and then stuck into the sandwich with bits of fried angel hair pasta.
The sides are green apples, carrots, and cucumbers. A few petite cocoa cookies are thrown in for a little something sweet.
Here’s a closeup of their wee faces. I’m a fan of the winking hares myself.
Happy nibbling!
