Bento #14: Deadpool

Can the Merc with a Mouth handle a BLT with fries?

It’s not a taco, but I think he’s up to the job.

My current bedtime reading is a stack of old Deadpool trade paperbacks. I can’t claim to be an overall comics fan, but I am enjoying the heck out of unpredictable, whimsically amoral Wade Wilson and his cheerful disinclination to respect the fourth wall. If you’re not familiar with the character, you can get general background information here. Just be advised even though Deadpool does bear a passing resemblance to Spider Man, this is NOT a series for kids (most of the titles have a Parental Advisory sticker for a reason – wow, there’s a lot of violence).

Since Deadpool isn’t kid friendly, this bento featuring the Merc with a Mouth got to be mine, all mine.

This was an easy, easy charaben. Deadpool is a slice of roma tomato decorated with nori and slivers of cheese. The word balloon and text blocks are made from white and orange (sigh – no yellow) American cheese. The most time-consuming part of the whole operation was the text itself. 5AM Bento originated that absolutely ingenious idea: words made from alphabet pasta. You just color the noodles with a food coloring pen (or brush on liquid food coloring). It makes great text, but it does take a while to find the correct letters and then paint them.

The sandwich itself is is bacon, lettuce, and tomato with mayonnaise on white. Sides consist of some cheddar oven fries, a cucumber onion salad, and cantaloupe curls.

Happy nibbling!
